A recent work study found that those who work 40-49 hours a week are more at risk for an injury due to a work-related accident...and the risk continues to increase the more and more hours are spent on a job per week.
That might not be surprising to you. Increased workload...time at work...all those can cause added stress, and when stress is high, accidents are more likely to occur.
Employers play a huge role in this. The factors are nearly the same as the ones we mentioned in yesterday's blog post. You're working extra hours...but is your employer? Is your employer still punching out at 5, and leaving you on your own? There's an obvious lack of supervision when that happens...but also, a lack of concern of your well-being. Your employer will just assume that everything will go well...but what happens when an accident occurs?
We've run into that a few times while handling claims from our clients. They were instructed to work late...an accident occurs...and the employer argues "Well, that was outside the normal workday hours".
An injury at work can occur at any time...whether employers recognize that fact or not.
If an accident should occur, who will stand by you? Obviously, not your employer. They look to try and sweep it all on the rug. They don't want to compensate you any amount if they're not getting something back in return. Sorry...but, that's not how it works.
We'll continue fighting troublesome employers like this until you receive your full and rightful compensation. You have rights...rights that protect you...and rights that we're dedicated to protecting.
