Injured While Putting Up the Lights?

We're beginning the holiday season, and with the holidays comes many businesses getting in the holiday spirit by putting up festive holiday lights & decorations. With those increased worker responsibilities, comes increased risks.

A worker fell 35 feet off an industrial ladder Monday while putting Christmas lights on a palm tree in Fort Lauderdale.

The accident happened at noon in the 1200 block of East Las Olas Boulevard, said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Heiser. The worker, who is in his late 40s to early 50s, was taken to Broward Health with serious injuries, Heiser said. He is expected to survive.

"Judging from his injuries, either the ladder fell or he slid down it," Heiser said.

If you have been injured while on the job, or doing a job-related activity, you are eligible for workers' compensation. It's imperative that you know your company's policy, but as we have seen far too often, sometimes those polices are filled with exceptions that have been put in place to try and keep your employer from being liable.

You have rights, and it's our priority to make sure you know your rights, and that you are compensated correctly. You worked too hard not get what you have rightfully earned.
