Employer's Neglect Leads to Work Accident & Injury

When dealing with work sites, it's on the employer to ensure that the area they're sending their employees to is safe. Unfortunately, it doesn't always happen.

A worker dismantling a water tank suffered serious injuries when he fell Monday afternoon.

The worker, believed to be about 20, and another man were taking apart an old rooftop water tank about 4 p.m. on a building.

When the man climbed the tank's original ladder, which was attached to a rotted section, the ladder broke off, Langford said. The man fell to the roof's surface.

Paramedics had to climb to the roof with medical equipment to treat the man, whose condition was stabilized there before he was brought down and taken to Stroger Hospital, Langford said. He was listed in serious-to-critical condition Monday afternoon.

An employer should have done the legwork to ensure that ladder was safe enough for his employees to climb down. Instead, assumptions were made, and a worker was seriously injured.

This can not be allowed to happen again. Eric, Randy, and Sarah are dedicated to fighting for the injured worker. Too many times, a negligent employer gets away with little more than a slap on a wrist (or no consequences at all).

If you have been injured while on the job, or doing a job-related activity, you are eligible for workers' compensation. It's imperative that you know your company's policy, but as we've seen far too often, sometimes those polices are filled with exceptions that have been put in to try and keep your employer from being liable.

If you've been injured at work, call Eric, Randy, and Sarah at 515-225-4485. The worst thing you could do is wait, and hope the company will take care of you. They won't...we will. We will fight for rights to make sure you get the proper compensation.
