2 Workers Injured, 1 Killed After Pole Falls on Power Line

This unfortunate story has impacted not only the families of the workers involved...but an entire community.

One person died, and two others have been transported to a Plano hospital after a flag pole fell onto a power line at a Sherman apartment complex.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the River Ranch apartment complex on FM 1417 in Sherman.

Sherman Fire Chief Danny Jones said around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday ground crew members were lifting the flag pole in front of the apartment complex, when it fell over onto a power line.

Officials said Kiley Russell died at Wilson N Jones Hospital. The other workers, Devin Schares and Jackson Wells were taken to a Plano hospital's burn unit. They are in critical condition.

"So I was actually in my car in the parking lot and I hear a zzzz sound and I look over to my right and I see a big splash, a big cloud of blue," KXII-TV Morning Producer Adrian Torres said.

What an absolutely tragic accident. Apparently, a strong gust of wind lifted the pole while they were putting it in place, and then it struck the electrical line.
