A very sad accident resulted in severe injuries for a hard-working garbageman.
A worker was flown to the hospital after he fell off a garbage truck and hit his head Friday, police said.
Officers responded to the emergency around 3 p.m. and found the 40-year-old Gaeta Recycling employee unconscious, Capt. Kenneth Fackina said. The injured man's condition was not immediately available.
Emergency crews rushed the man to a landing zone in Riverdale, where he was moved to a medical helicopter and flown to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
Fackina said a witness reported "seeing the worker lean from the back of the truck and strike a utility pole with his body. He then fell from the truck striking the ground."
It's more evidence that an accident can occur at any time and in any fashion. How many times have you seen a garbageman leaning back on the back of the truck, and nothing happens? All the time...yet, it's that one "freak" moment that can cause an accident to occur.
What happenes then? Is the injured worker just out on his own? How can he afford to pay medical costs when he's out of work? How can he support his family when he's no longer able to do his job?
That's where we can help. Eric, Randy, and Sarah have over 30 years of experience dealing with workers' compensation claims, and we are well-versed in knowing the avenues to pursue to ensure you receive your full and rightful compensation.
We will look at all the factors...medical costs...lost wages...travel expenses...long-term impacts of the injury. We understand just how difficult it is for one to be injured and out-of-work...while all at the same time, trying to support yourself and family. It's a tremendous burden...a burden we will do our best to help alleviate.
