Many people incorrectly think that workers' compensation is only for injuries that occur due to an accident of "extraordinary" circumstances. While that can be the case times, we find that most injuries occur while employees are simply going through their normal day-to-day work routine.
A maintenance worker was rushed to the hospitalThursday after a pipe exploded outside a Miami courthouse.
According to courthouse spokesperson Pam Regula, a maintenance mechanic was performing his weekly routine of changing a filter cartridge for the fountain located in front of the Richard E. Gerstein JusticeBuilding.
When he removed the cartridge, the pipe burst.
The worker was taken to hospital for his injuries. His condition is currently unknown.
A weekly routine...a task this employee had probably accomplished dozens of times without incident. However, this one time...something terrible and unfortunate happened which resulted in injuries.
This employee wasn't acting reckless...he wasn't doing something out of the ordinary...he was doing his normal task...and thus, he should be rightfully compensated.
