There are so many instances where an accident at work is completely unpredictable, but that doesn't mean that you're rights as a worker are stripped away. You are still entitled to compensation!
A fire broke out on Saturday at an oil refinery near Houston, Texas, injuring one employee.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the blaze at the plant owned by Pasadena Refining System Inc., a subsidiary of Brazilian state-controlled energy company Petróleo Brasileiro S.A.
The employee was taken to a local hospital for observation and has been released, according to a statement from Pasadena Refining.
The company said the fire broke out around 10:15 a.m., local time, in the hydrogen dusulpherization unit. "The fire has been contained and the facility is in a safe condition," the company said. The plant is located in Pasadena, Texas.
Such an unfortunate situation, but even though this was an unforeseen accident, it doesn't mean that the injured worker isn't eligible for workers' compensation.
If you have been injured while on the job, or doing a job-related activity, you are eligible for workers' compensation. It's imperative that you know your company's policy, but as we've seen far too often, sometimes those polices are filled with exceptions that have been put in to try and keep your employer from being liable.
We fight for you, the worker. You have rights, and it's our priority to make sure you know your rights, and that you are compensated correctly. You've worked too hard not get what you have rightfully earned.
