Zoo Employee Injured After Falling Into Gorilla Enclosure

A Los Angeles Zoo employee suffered injuries after falling into the zoo's gorilla enclosure as reported by authorities last Thursday.

gorilla.jpgAt around 8:30 AM on January 21, a 55-year-old grounds worker at the Los Angeles Zoo was reported by the LAFD to have fallen about 15 to 20 feet into a moat in the gorilla enclosure. Officials said that the four gorillas were in their "bedrooms" during the accident, which meant that the employee was never in danger. However, the actual rescue took around 25 minutes.

The worker, whose name and identity remain undisclosed, was strapped to a backboard and lifted up from the moat.

While the Los Angeles Zoo incident incurred no major injuries, the victim of the fall did suffer a possible femur fracture. Zoo officials witnessed the employee landscaping near the exhibit when he lost his footing on a planter and fell into the enclosure.

The worker was then taken to the hospital with a possible femur fracture. It is unclear how he lost his footing and fell into the enclosure, a spokesperson for the zoo said.

Additionally, zoo officials stated that despite seeing how the employee fell, they currently have no information as to how exactly the fall happened and why he couldn't control the accident as he fell 20 feet below. They will be holding internal investigations to look further into the incident.

We're sure extra precautions will be added to ensure an accident like this won't take place again...however, this freak accident is proof that an injury can happen at the workplace at anytime.

This injured worker's medical costs & wages lost should most certainly be reimbursed by her employer.

Eric, Randy, and Sarah have worked with injured workers time and time again to ensure that their rights are being upheld. You the worker are rightfully due compensation for the injuries you suffer while on the job...whether they be freak accidents or not.

We work tirelessly to ensure that you, the worker, is given your full & rightful compensation. Anything less is unacceptable to us!
