You've been injured while on the job, so now it's time to be seen by a doctor.
Can you pick your own doctor?
In most states, you are permitted to receive treatment from any physician you choose for the initial visit. However, in Iowa...this is NOT the case. Your employer or your employer's insurance company generally has the power to choose the doctor you see after a work accident. You will still have the option of going to be seen by your doctor, but you risk the possibility that your visit may not be covered by health insurance or workers' compensation benefits.
It is common for one to have that suspicious feeling that you won't be treated fairly. After all, you were hurt on the job, and now you're trusting a doctor appointed by your employer to diagnose you? It seems like that the odds would be stacked against you.
Do NOT be discouraged by this!
If you feel that you were mistreated, or misdiagnosed....or that the level of care was insufficient, then notify your employer immediately! Steps can be taken to correct this, and in some cases, you can file paperwork to seek alternate care.
We understand that this can lead to frustration, but that's where we can help guide you through the process. Let us handle the heavy lifting! You've been injured while on the job...the only thing you should be focused on is getting back to full-health. Let us fight for you to get the compensation you deserve! We will NOT let you be taken advantage of!
