Just because it was a "freak" work-related accident, it doesn't mean that you don't have rights!
Two people were sent to the hospital after lightning struck at a Bonita Springs construction site Wednesday afternoon.
It happened on Snowberry Lane and Red Hibiscus Drive around 3 p.m.
Neighbors say the lightning strike hit a roofer directly in the head - knocking him unconscious. That bolt then transferred to another worker who was just steps away.
Both were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital but are doing fine.
Four men were working on the roof at the time. All four were brothers working for D. Peck Roofing. Their boss tells us they were all heading towards the ladder when it happened.
"They were single file coming off the roof. The first one had almost reached the ladder but hadn't reached the ladder yet. They were in single file order, and it hit the one of the highest point. The lightning apparently struck him directly and then transferred to the next one. That employee's also at the hospital," said Dave Peck with D. Peck Roofing, Inc.
Peck tells us there is protocol to head for safety when a storm rolls through. He says they were doing just that - trying to get off the roof.
Even with the employees following the proper safety protocol, there's no way to predicted when and where a lightning strike will happen. Just because it was a "freak" accident doesn't mean that the injured employee is deprived of his rights. This injured worker should...and will...be compensated for his wages lost, medical bills, and other extra expenses that the injured work may incur.
Eric, Randy, and Sarah have worked with injured workers time and time again to ensure that their rights are being upheld. You the worker are rightfully due compensation for the injuries you suffer while on the job...whether they be freak accidents or not.
We hear from clients all the time that their employer offered them a "deal" for their injuries, and they were shocked to discover how little the employer offered them, and how in many instances, the employer was in direct violation of the workers' rights.
Don't settle for what your employer offers you...you have rights, and we're here to help!
