Worker Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Roller Accident

A construction worker was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pavement roller in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood Thursday afternoon, officials said.

First responders got to the scene at 18th and Vicente streets at 12:14 p.m. and found the worker, a man in his 50s, laying next to the pavement roller, saidJonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department.

Officer Albie Esparza, a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department, confirmed reports that the pavement roller hit the worker.

First responders on scene gave the man, who was not identified, emergency medical care before taking him to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Esparza said. The worker was in serious condition with traumatic injuries to the lower part of his body, according to Baxter.
